Paralysis

What is Paralysis?

Paralysis is the weakness or loss of muscle in one or several particular body organs due to an injury in the nervous system. It may interfere with movement, speech, and sensation. Different variants of Paralysis can be treated by  Ayurvedic medicine for Paralysis  in a natural way to  restore balance in the body's energies.

Symptoms

  • Sudden weakness or loss of muscle control.
  • Difficulty in speaking or swallowing.
  • Numbness in one or more parts of the body.
  • Drooping of facial muscles.

Types of Paralysis

There are various types of Paralysis, categorised based on the areas affected and the severity of the condition.

Monoplegia:  This classification impacts one limb, such as a leg or an arm. It is typically caused by some form of nerve damage or localized injury, usually associated with a stroke, cerebral palsy, or specific conditions such as  Klumpke Paralysis , which affects the lower part of the brachial plexus and leads to weakness of the hand and wrist.

Hemiplegia:  Hemiplegia affects the movement of the upper and lower limbs on one part of the body's right or left side. This type of condition is usually caused by strokes or injury to the brain that consists of a single hemisphere of the brain.

Paraplegia:  Paraplegia refers to Paralysis of the lower half of the body, encompassing both legs. It is frequently the result of spinal cord injuries, which impair movement and sensation below the injury site.

Quadriplegia, or  tetraplegia, affects all four limbs and the torso. It can be caused by spinal cord injuries in the neck area or severe neurological disorders, such as hypokalemic periodic Paralysis, which can cause weakness in muscles or Paralysis due to low potassium levels.

Locked-in Syndrome:  This rare condition leads to total Paralysis of all voluntary muscles except those controlling eye movement. Patients remain fully aware but are unable to move or speak.

Causes of Paralysis

Some of the causes of Paralysis may include,

Stroke:  Reduced blood flow to the brain
Injury:  Brain or spinal cord injury.
Nerve Conditions:  Illnesses such as multiple sclerosis.
Infections:  Diseases like polio.

According to Ayurveda, Paralysis is caused by an imbalance in the body’s Vata dosha, which affects movement and motor functions.

Signs and Symptoms of Paralysis

  • Sudden loss of movement or control over muscles.
  • Lack of sensation or numbness
  • Impairment of speaking ability and swallowing of food.
  • Facial muscles are sagging.

If early symptoms of Paralysis get detected, Ayurvedic treatment can help restore function and manage symptoms effectively.
